Fraud does not stay inside one industry. Fake exchanges, unlicensed brokers, Ponzi-style investment schemes, impersonated banks and cloned business websites share the same basic pattern: a convincing front, a promise of returns or services, and a barrier that appears when the victim tries to withdraw their money. This reported fraud companies list brings together companies, websites and platforms that have been named in publicly documented fraud allegations, regulatory warnings, consumer reports, investigations or legal proceedings, so that you can research a name before you send money.
The scale of the problem is why this matters. The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center recorded 181,565 cryptocurrency-related complaints and more than $11 billion in reported losses in 2025, and crypto investment fraud alone accounted for about $7.2 billion (FBI 2025 Internet Crime Report coverage). Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin scams are therefore an important part of this database. They are not its limit: the same research method applies to investment, trading, financial services, payment and impersonation fraud.
Inclusion in this list does not establish that a company has committed fraud. Each entry describes what a named source says, who said it, and what stage the matter has reached: a court finding, a regulator’s finding, an allegation, or an ongoing proceeding. This is not an official government blacklist, and Fintech Legals has not independently investigated every entity listed. Please read the original source for each entry before drawing any conclusion.
Types of Fraud and Scam Companies
Reported fraud takes several forms. Understanding the categories helps you recognise what you are looking at and which checks apply. None of this means that businesses in these industries are fraudulent: most operate lawfully, and the warning signs below describe how fraudulent operators tend to differ from them.
Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin Scams
The crypto category, which readers often search for as a bitcoin scammer list or a list of fake crypto exchanges, includes fake crypto exchanges, fraudulent Bitcoin investment schemes, suspicious crypto trading platforms, impersonation websites that copy real exchanges, and recovery scams aimed at people who have already lost money.
Many fake exchanges follow the same script. A stranger makes contact through a dating app, social media or a messaging group. Weeks of friendly conversation lead to a recommendation for a trading platform that shows convincing charts and rising balances. Small withdrawals may work at first, which encourages larger deposits. Eventually, withdrawals are blocked unless the victim pays supposed taxes or verification fees. Several entries in the database, including the platforms in the SEC’s December 2025 complaint, are described in this pattern.
Warning signs include guaranteed or unusually high returns, contact that began with a stranger, a platform you cannot find on a regulator’s register, fees demanded before you can withdraw your own funds, and pressure to deposit more quickly. Verify any exchange on your national regulator’s official register, using a link you found yourself rather than one the platform or a contact sent to you. Remember that an unlicensed platform is not automatically a scam, but it leaves you without regulatory protection.
Investment Fraud
Investment fraud covers fraudulent investment offers, misleading return claims, Ponzi and pyramid schemes, and unregistered offerings presented as safe opportunities. In a Ponzi scheme, returns paid to earlier investors come from later investors’ money rather than from real profits. The BitConnect, OneCoin, BitClub Network and PlusToken entries illustrate how these schemes have been described by prosecutors and courts.
Warning signs include guaranteed returns, returns that stay unusually steady, rewards for recruiting other investors, vague explanations of how money is made, and difficulty withdrawing. Verification steps include checking the seller and the product with your securities regulator (in the US, the SEC points investors to Investor.gov), asking for registration details, and reading the offering documents rather than relying on marketing material.
Online Trading and Forex Scams
Suspicious trading and forex platforms often present themselves as brokers, show convincing dashboards and offer account managers or signals. Problems commonly reported include misleading brokerage claims, withdrawal restrictions, large “bonus” conditions that make withdrawal impossible, and unauthorised financial services offered by firms with no authorisation to do so.
Before funding an account, check whether the firm is authorised in the jurisdiction where it is dealing with you. In the US, the CFTC encourages the public to verify a firm’s registration through NFA BASIC; in the UK, check the FCA register and its warning list; in Hong Kong, check the SFC’s licensing register and alert list. Be cautious of apps distributed outside official app stores and of platforms that require you to deposit to “unlock” withdrawals.
Fake Financial Services Companies
Some fraudulent businesses impersonate legitimate financial institutions, advisers, payment providers or investment firms. They may copy a real firm’s name, branding and registration number (sometimes called a clone firm), or use a convincing website with a name close to a genuine one.
Warning signs include contact details that differ from the real firm’s published details, a registration number that belongs to a different business, and pressure to move money to a “safe” account. To verify, find the real institution’s contact details independently, call it directly and ask whether the person who contacted you works there. Compare the firm’s address, regulator reference and domain with the regulator’s own entry.
Online Fraud and Impersonation
This category covers fake business websites, impersonation schemes, phishing websites and fraudulent online service providers. Common examples include cloned shopping or service sites, fake customer-support pages, and messages that imitate banks, delivery firms or government agencies.
Warning signs include very recently registered domains, small differences in spelling, no verifiable business address, payment requests by methods that are hard to reverse, and urgent threats. Check the domain registration details, search for the business’s registration in the official company registry, and avoid following links in unsolicited messages. A padlock icon or professional design shows only that a site is encrypted or well made, not that it is honest.
How to Identify a Potentially Fraudulent Company
No single check settles whether a business is legitimate, but several together give a much clearer picture. Work through the following before committing money.
- Verify the legal name and registration. Search for the exact company name in the official registry of the country where it says it is based, and confirm the registered address and directors.
- Check authorisation for the services advertised. A business offering investments, trading, payments or custody may need a licence, registration or authorisation. What is required depends on the jurisdiction and the activity.
- Review regulator warnings. Search the warning or alert lists of relevant regulators, such as the SEC, CFTC, FCA and Hong Kong SFC.
- Examine court records and law enforcement announcements. Where available, search court dockets and official press releases for the company and its principals.
- Check the website and domain. Look at the domain’s age, registrant information where available, and whether the name closely imitates a better-known firm.
- Look for impersonation and misleading details. Compare logos, registration numbers and addresses against the genuine firm’s official entry.
- Assess return promises. Regulators warn that all investments carry risk, and a guaranteed or unusually high return deserves scepticism.
- Watch for advance-payment demands. Fees, taxes or deposits demanded before you can withdraw your own money are a recurring feature of reported cases.
- Read complaints carefully. Complaints and reviews are useful signals, but they are allegations. Distinguish them from regulatory findings and court judgments.
- Confirm contact details and identity independently. If you cannot verify who runs a business, where it is and how to reach it, treat that as a risk in itself.
Registration, website security, a professional appearance or positive reviews alone do not guarantee legitimacy. Fraudulent operators can obtain domains, security certificates, polished designs and reviews, and some have displayed licence numbers that were not theirs.
How to Verify a Company Listed in a Fraud Database
A database entry is a starting point for research, not a conclusion. Before relying on any entry, including those on this page:
- Open the original source linked in the entry and read what it actually says, who said it, and when.
- Check financial regulators and official warning lists in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Search court records and published legal decisions for the case, including later developments such as appeals.
- Read law enforcement announcements for charges, arrests and seizures.
- Check official company registries for the legal entity, its status, directors and registered address.
- Consult reliable investigative reporting, noting where it relies on the sources above.
- Use other independently verifiable records, such as domain registration data and regulator registers.
A company’s absence from a warning list does not establish that it is legitimate. New operations may not yet have been reported, and regulators cannot list everything. Registration, authorisation and licensing also mean different things in different jurisdictions and for different activities, so confirm that a firm is authorised for the specific service you are being offered. Finally, consider the date and context of each source: a warning issued years ago may have been superseded, and an allegation may later be dismissed, proven or settled.
What to Do If You Have Been Scammed by a Company
The right response depends on the type of fraud, the jurisdiction, the payment method and the evidence you hold. Act quickly, because funds can move within hours.
- Stop sending money. Do not pay “release”, tax or verification fees; each payment usually triggers another demand.
- Preserve evidence. Keep contracts, receipts, emails, messages, transaction records and any account statements.
- Save screenshots and website details. Capture the site, its address, account pages, balances and chat logs before they disappear.
- Record payment information. Note amounts, dates, bank or card details, wallet addresses and transaction references.
- Contact your bank, card issuer or payment provider. Some transfers can be challenged or flagged if reported promptly, though outcomes vary. If you bought crypto through an exchange, tell the exchange as well.
- Report to the relevant authorities. In the US, this includes the FBI’s IC3 and the FTC; elsewhere, use your national fraud or cybercrime agency, police and financial regulator. Reporting small losses still helps authorities connect victims to the same network.
- Consider qualified legal advice. A lawyer can explain options such as civil claims, freezing orders or regulatory complaints in your jurisdiction.
- Be cautious of recovery services. Anyone who contacts you unprompted offering to retrieve your money, promises guaranteed results or asks for an upfront fee may be running a second scam.
Recovery is never guaranteed. Whether funds can be traced, frozen or returned depends on speed, where the money went, whether it reached a regulated platform and what authorities or courts can do.
How Professional Fraud Investigations Can Help
Professional investigators can help individuals and businesses make sense of suspected fraud and turn scattered information into something banks, regulators, law enforcement and lawyers can use. The right approach depends on the case, but the work commonly includes:
- Background research into companies and associated individuals.
- Corporate and business identity research, including registrations, ownership and filings.
- Domain ownership and website investigation, such as registration history and hosting.
- Review of publicly available records, including regulatory, court and registry documents.
- Analysis of financial and transactional evidence, such as bank records and payment trails.
- Blockchain transaction tracing as part of crypto crime investigations where cryptocurrency is involved, following funds across wallets and into exchanges and services.
- Identifying potential connections between websites, companies and other entities.
- Organising evidence and preparing investigative findings for use by third parties.
A crypto investigator or crypto crime investigation can clarify what happened and what options exist, but it cannot promise outcomes. It may not identify every responsible party, and it does not guarantee that any funds will be recovered.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a reported fraud companies list?
It is a database of companies, websites and platforms that have been named in publicly documented fraud allegations, regulatory warnings, investigations or legal proceedings. A good one links each entry to its source and states what stage the matter has reached.
How can I check whether a company has been reported for fraud?
Search this database for the company name and any website addresses you were given. Then search regulator warning lists, court records and law enforcement announcements in the relevant jurisdiction. Absence from one list does not make a company safe.
Does inclusion in a fraud database prove that a company is fraudulent?
No. An entry may reflect a court finding, a regulator’s warning, a pending allegation or an ongoing investigation. Each carries different weight, and none of them is a final legal finding unless the entry says a court has made one.
Where can I find a list of reported investment scam companies?
This page is one starting point. For official information, use regulator warning lists, such as those of the SEC, CFTC, FCA and Hong Kong SFC, and published court and enforcement records. Victim-report databases can add signals but contain unverified claims.
How can I verify whether a financial services company is legitimate?
Confirm its legal name in the official company registry, check that it is authorised for the specific service it offers on the regulator’s own register, and contact it using details you found independently. Compare its domain and registration numbers with the regulator’s entry.
How can I identify a fake cryptocurrency exchange?
Look for guaranteed returns, no verifiable licence, fees demanded before withdrawals, contact that started with a stranger, and a recently registered domain. Check your national regulator’s register directly and avoid links supplied by anyone who contacted you.
What should I do if a company refuses to return my money?
Stop sending money, preserve all evidence, and contact your bank or payment provider. Report the matter to the relevant regulator and law enforcement agency and consider qualified legal advice. Be wary of anyone offering guaranteed recovery for an upfront fee.
How can I report a suspected fraudulent company?
Report to law enforcement and to the financial regulator in your jurisdiction. In the US, that includes the FBI’s IC3 and the FTC, and the SEC or CFTC for investment offers. You can also report the account or advertisement to the platform where you encountered it.
Can professional investigators investigate online investment scams?
Yes. A crypto investigator or other fraud investigator can research companies and individuals, examine domains and websites, review public records, analyse financial evidence and organise findings. They cannot guarantee that responsible parties will be identified or that money will be recovered.
Can cryptocurrency transactions be traced during a fraud investigation?
Often, yes. Many blockchains are public ledgers, so investigators can follow funds between wallets and sometimes to an exchange that holds identity records. Mixers, rapid transfers across chains and offshore services can make tracing harder, and tracing is not the same as recovery.
How often should a reported fraud database be updated?
Continuously for new entries, and on a regular review schedule for existing ones. Active matters should be rechecked at least monthly, settled matters at least quarterly, and any entry should be reviewed promptly when a court, regulator or credible source reports a change.
About Fintech Legals
FintechLegals LLC is an international legal services company that works with clients in the financial technology and digital assets sectors. Individuals and businesses dealing with suspected fraud often face two problems at once: understanding what happened, and understanding what options they have. Obtaining appropriate investigative assistance early can help with both.
Fintech Legals offers services that may be relevant, including Fraud Investigations, Due Diligence Services, Crypto Investigation, Crypto Assets Tracing and Domain Ownership Investigation. If a business has published inaccurate claims about you, see also Notice and Takedown Services.
If you have lost money or are unsure whether a company is genuine, contact Fintech Legals to discuss your situation and whether investigative support may be appropriate. Fintech Legals cannot guarantee that an investigation will identify every responsible party or that lost funds will be recovered.
Reported Fraud Companies List
Use this database to check a company name, platform or website against publicly documented reports. Search for the name you were given, then read the linked source and check its date. A name that does not appear here is not therefore safe: new platforms appear and disappear quickly, and no list can be complete.
Status key
- Court finding: a judgment, conviction or sentence issued by a court.
- Regulator finding: a published report, alert or warning from a financial regulator. These are not criminal convictions.
- Allegation: charges, an indictment or a civil complaint has been filed, and no final ruling is recorded in the sources checked. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven otherwise.
- Ongoing: proceedings or investigations are continuing, and the position may change.

Notes on the database
- Domains. Neither the earlier Fintech Legals articles nor the sources cited above gave verified domains for these entries. Fintech Legals adds a domain only after confirming it from a primary document such as a regulator notice, court exhibit or complaint, and does not infer domains from company names.
- Scope. The launch entries are cryptocurrency-related because both earlier articles were. Entries for investment, forex, financial services, payment and impersonation fraud will be added as each is verified against a credible source, so the list does not rely on guesswork to look broader.
- Aliases. Where a source identifies alternative names, associated domains or related entities, they are recorded in the same entry.
- Changes over time. Status can change after an entry is published. Always check the linked source and its date.
- Corrections. If you believe an entry is inaccurate, out of date or should be removed, write to support@fintechlegals.com with the entry name and supporting documents. See our correction process at the end of this page.
